Money isn’t just a piece of paper with a photo of a dead president on it.

As kids, we weren’t taught anything about making money in our schools. “Personal Finance”, which is one of the most important topics that everyone should know wasn’t even part of the education system. That’s the reason why most people (including me) are pretty fucked up at managing money.

But I always saw money as some kind of mysterious tool that shapes the world. Yes, that’s true. But how? What is money in the first place? Is money the reason for all the unhappy things that happen?

In this article, I have listed 5 books and I am pretty sure these 5 books will answer all the money questions that you have in your mind.

And No, money is not the reason for all the unhappy things. The problem lies in us. Now, let’s take a look at the list of money books that you should read.

1. Sapiens

You might have heard of this book as one of the best books to read on the topic of “Evolution”. Yes, that’s true.

But the book also talks about how we ended up inventing money. From bookkeeping to banks, agricultural revolution to capitalism, the author Yuval Noah Harari talked about many things that revolve around money.

And so definitely a must-read book I’d say.

Money is accordingly a system of mutual trust, and not just any system of mutual trust: Money is the most universal and most efficient system of mutual trust ever devised

Yuval Noah Harari

2. Rich Dad Poor Dad

Why isn’t “How to make money” isn’t taught at school and how it has impacted us? What separates the rich and poor people? Do the rich really work for money?

If you are wondering what’s the answer to the last question, it’s “No, they don’t work for money”. But to know the how and why you should read the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad”.

There is the reason why this book, written by Robert Kiyosaki is one of the best-selling books of all time in the finance niche. And it’s been here for the last two decades. It stood the test of time and it always will.

Often the more money you make the more money you spend. That’s why more money doesn’t make you rich. Assets make you rich.

Robert Kiyosaki

3. The Psychology Of Money

Why is wealth invisible? If it is visible, it’s not wealth? Do people get lucky when it comes to earning money? This book written by Morgan Housel talks about many of these kinds of aspects.

When most people say they want to be a millionaire, what they might actually mean is I’d like to spend a million dollars. And that is literally the opposite of being a millionaire.

Morgan Housel

4. Happy Money

Ken Honda, the author of the book Happy Money shared his thoughts on how to be happy with the money we have. Why do some people save money? Why do some people spend more than they earn? How come some people are so happy with a little salary? Is that even possible?

This book takes us to the philosophical and happiness point of view of money and how to achieve peace with money.

A salary of $1 million a month in no way guarantees financial freedom. Our toys just get more and more expensive.

Ken Honda

5. The Almanack Of Naval Ravikant

Naval Ravikant is one of the few people who really changed my life. I’ve written a separate article on some of the greatest lessons that he has taught via tweets and podcasts. This book, inspired by his podcast and tweetstorm, has a lot of profound lessons on wealth and happiness.

Why is it that even a doctor who earns 300$ per hour can’t really get rich? How to achieve peace of mind? Or peace from “mind”?

Grab a copy and thank me later. You can get the PDF version of this book for free, here.

You don’t get rich by spending your time to save money. You get rich by saving your time to make money

Naval Ravikant

Conclusion

I bet once you read all these 5 books you don’t see the money in the same way that you saw. You are gonna be a completely different person.
